Promises to Keep: Another Car-Free Day!
Hopping into my husband’s car to UCLA was the start of today’s Car-Free Day #1. On his way to work at Olympic and Bundy, he dropped me off at Santa Monica Boulevard and Westwood. “You can pick up the bus here,” he said in the moment I was exiting the auto. “Thanks, but nope,” I said. “I’m walking.” And within a half-hour I was there, after being transported to the Persian neighborhood along the way. Restaurants being readied for lunches of rice and lamb, soups with lemon. Bookstore windows full of new editions in Farsi. And nail shops, of course. But I had an appointment at 10:30 at the UCLA Extension offices, enrolling in the Fundraising certification program. More later on that. One of my favorite parts of the discussion with MY enrollment counselor - not just for college freshmen - was that Crystal lives in the Westwood area and walks to work. I’m almost completely enrolled. Watch out cause-marketing public relations firms or corporations that need a social action program. I’ll be calling on you! Next a meeting with Wingz Design to help brand their firm and edit their website. I had thought I was going to find a bus south on Beverly Glen, but nope. Only during rush hour, so my not-so-rushed, not-quite-an-hour brisk walk was quiet time contemplating my next moves. Some of my favorite apartments in the area line this road with their tiered balconies, courtyards and flat 50s roofs. The luxury of the walk. Tonight I am about to hop on the bus to the Santa Monica Library to learn about product placement.
