  • Promises Kept: Car-Free in L.A. for 6 Days

OK, not such a big deal, 6 days, but it is liberating not to be behind the wheel. You see so much more. (While riding the bus on Thursday I looked up from my newspaper and actually saw a chicken - and a rooster - crossing the road in Hollywood!)  For the holiday weekend, we did drive up the coast for our annual pizza pilgrimage to Full of Life in Los Alamos, and I worked on the website copy for Wingz Design and Ben listened to his mix and read while my husband drove my Toyota Camry Sport. He loves to drive and drive, especially when this restaurant is our destination. http://bit.ly/9ynWH7 Everything’s made from wonderful local foods, and there are plenty of L.A. folks who drive up. Next time we’ll car pool with friends. I digress. Back to digestion. After our dinner of Fried Morro Bay Oysters with Chervil Aioli and Meyer Lemon; Tomato Sugo with Bacon, Rapini and a Farm Egg; Greens Ravioli with Oxtail Ragu, and Blueberry Cobbler with Meyer Lemon Buttermilk Ice Cream we walked through Los Alamos, down their one main road where the stage coaches once traveled and still not a traffic light in sight. Almost like Rodeo Drive, way back when it was actually a street for horses. So quiet. The long walk after dinner and the added reward of the lush sunset. Oh, there’s the phone. Got to pick up Ben and drive to Westwood for a doctor’s appointment. We’ll park far away. I cannot stand $8 for parking. Back to reality.
